In 1880 E W Benson, then Bishop of Truro, drew up a festival of 9 lessons and carols, based on ancient sources, for use on Christmas Eve in the wooden shed which then served as his cathedral. In 1918 this was adapted for use in the chapel of King’s College Cambridge by its Dean Eric Milner-White. It has become a great Christmas tradition and is watched and listened to by a worldwide audience.
Our service will follow the traditional format using the readings from the King James version of the Bible. The service will move without any introductions to the readings and carols. We have a couple of lovely duets from Ally and Rosalind Quatermass as well as two very special carols from the a cappella group Voces8. We were very thrilled to have their permission to use these in our service tonight and if you would like to find out more about Voces8 please go to http://www.voces8.com
Covid requirements will be as they are for all our services under the current restrictions. Masks will be required and anyone over the age of 12 will have to present a valid Vaccine Pass (hard copy or on a phone) which will be scanned. Numbers are limited to 100 and to allow time for signing in and scanning passes please come along early.
We look forward to seeing you!
