Following a very well received Evensong Service as part of St Chad’s re-opening celebrations last year, the Auckland based chamber choir Cantorum have been invited back to St Chad’s to sing Choral Evensong on Sunday 15th March at 5.00pm.
The choir will sing anthems by Batten and Gibbons and the Evensong setting by Charles Wood. This is a rare opportunity to take part in the very traditional Anglican Choral Evensong service based on the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
Cantorum usually only perform in All Saints Church in Ponsonby but were delighted to be invited to come “out west” once again. The choir grew out of the very famous Auckland choir Musica Sacra. When Musica Sacra finished in 2013 a group of their choristers decided that they wanted to continue to perform music from the traditional, largely religious, choral repertoire. The choir normally performs 3 concerts a year and is now led by well known music director Anita Banbury.
Everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy what we are sure will be a wonderful event.
